The position:
CSIRO Land and Water in Adelaide (South Australia) is offering an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our national multi-disciplinary team. You will work on a project which aims to develop and use emerging molecular and isotopic technologies to better understand key functions in Australian soil systems. The project will focus on functional soil ecology of key soil biogeochemical processes with emphasis on soil carbon dynamics. A central feature of the project is to investigate the influence of spatial and temporal variation on functional community ecology in response to ecosystem disturbance. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the wider network of molecular microbiologists, population and community ecologists, and soil biogeochemists across this project. The research will span both natural and agro-ecosystems and has strong national linkages across the CSIRO Sustainable Agriculture Flagship (SAF) and CSIROBiodiversity Research Programs.

Specifically you will:
undertake experimental research activities in soil biochemistry, both in field and laboratory, requiring originality, creativity and innovation;
prepare statistically robust and detailed experimental designs and protocols;
utilise the existing isotope facilities at the Waite Campus and collaborate with other researchers, technical staff and postdocs;
pursue new ideas, theoretical perspectives and approaches through networking with scientific colleagues;
prepare reports and write scientific papers for publication, and communicate results through presentations;
Location: Urrbrae (Adelaide) South Australia
Salary:      AUD75K – AUD82K plus up to 15.4% superannuation (pension fund)

To be considered you will hold a PhD in Soil Ecology/Soil Biochemistry (or related area) and have:
experience and knowledge of biogeochemical analytical methods and an understanding of the application of isotopic techniques;
experience in conducting field and/or large-scale glasshouse soil-based studies and in the collection and analysis of quantitative data sets;
the ability to develop research objectives, conceptualise and create hypotheses;
the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary research team;
a proven record of research publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
