Postdoctoral Researcher – Peer Learning Study

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for an 18 month fixed term contract position as postdoctoral researcher on a project funded by the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The position is full-time.

The Peer Learning study will focus on Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) which is an approach to student learning whereby students learn with and from each other, without immediate intervention from a teacher. Research has highlighted some of the potential benefits of PAL and findings indicate that students’ performance following PAL may be equal to that of students who learn from qualified staff. The study will focus on the use of PAL in nurse education.The study will explore the use of PAL in undergraduate nursing for the purpose of clinical skills teaching in the CSL and we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to lead this research. A Steering Group will oversee the research but the researcher will be responsible for the day to day management. The successful applicant will be responsible for the operational elements of the research including data collection and analysis and for ensuring that the study is conducted with rigor.

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic postdoctoral researcher to lead this study. The post-holder will be required to take an active role in all aspects of the research. In addition to the practical research the person will be involved in developing research tools, writing reports, bidding for further funding and writing papers. A key part of the role will be to plan, execute, and finalise projects according to strict deadlines. The researcher will be responsible with the PI’s for quality control. The successful applicant will need excellent knowledge of skill laboratory environments, research skills and project management.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Research, develop and deliver research progress reports, proposals, presentations and other documentation as required.
•Define, in collaboration with the Steering Group, scope, goals and deliverables required to meet the research aims.
•Develop project plans and associated communication documents.
•Undertake and write up literature review work.
•Co-ordinate research meetings
•Develop research tools.
•Contribute to the dissemination of information and findings.
•Direct and manage the research project with the support of Steering Group.
•Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
•Undertake data collection and analysis
•Prepare presentations for conferences.
•Plan for and allocate the resources needed to achieve project goals

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
•PhD.
•Registration in Nursing.
•Experience in research, including all End Note and n-vivo.
•Flexibility in meeting project requirements.
•Strong written and oral communication skills.
•Strong interpersonal skills.
•Skilled at researching project-related issues and products.

Salary: €38,286 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)

Start date: June 2012
