A joint appointment between the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

A seventeen month fixed term postdoctoral position, associated with a Technology Strategy Board (TSB) funded project entitled Innovative nanoporous carbon materials for energy storage applications, is available from 1st October 2012. The position will be a joint appointment between the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the project will be carried out in close association with a number of industrual partners, led by the SME MAST Carbon.

Applications are invited from candidates with:

• a PhD in either Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Engineering,

• demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team,

• a sound understanding of reactor design and principles of flow, and

• an understanding of materials characterisation, particularly with respect to porous particles, biopolymers and/or ionic liquids

Experience in reactor design and fabrication will be a distinct advantage and candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to organise their own workload while working to deadlines. Prior experience of interaction with industrial partners would be desirable. The PDRA will be based in the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at the University of Bath; and the successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive quarterly technical reports to all partners and for technology transfer to MAST Carbon.

The funded TSB project runs for three years and it is envisaged that, at the completion of the seventeen month contract, the incumbent will be a very strong contender for a further eighteen month contract position at SME MAST Carbon (Basingstoke, UK) to scale up the production of the carbon materials developed.
