英国科学与技术设施委员会招收计算机方向博士后
The Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is the UK’s provider of large scale inter-disciplinary research infrastructures and their supporting technologies, which enable UK researchers to investigate the world we live in and understand the building blocks of the universe.
Computational Scientist in Nano-Fluidics and Multiscale Modelling (IRC63213)
Full Time Fixed Term
Starting Salary: £26,610 for early stage researchers, or £33,780.00 with appropriate skills and experience
Based at STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory
Background
A consortium of three leading UK institutions (University of Warwick, STFC Daresbury Laboratory, and University of Strathclyde) is seeking a Research Associate to develop techniques for the hybrid molecular-continuum simulation of nano- and micro-scale fluid dynamics. This is part of a major EPSRC-funded Programme Grant targeting the unconventional nano- and micro-scale fluid dynamics needed to simulate and design engineering flow systems of the future. The simulation tools developed in the project will be applied to a range of global challenges in health, transportation and energy.
The successful candidate will be based at Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire, but with a remit to work across and between the three institutions, and will contribute to the research objectives through: developing techniques for the exchange and communication of molecular/fluid information between molecular dynamics and continuum-fluid solvers; creating methods for incorporating long-range interactions into hybrid simulations; and performing large-scale simulations of exemplar calculations involving water flow through carbon nanotube (CNT) membranes and over superhydrophobic surfaces.
Applicants must hold, or be about to finish, a Doctorate degree (or equivalent) in Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering and will have a strong mathematical, computational or engineering science background. You will have experience in molecular dynamics simulation and have a record of novel research papers published in recognised journals (or accepted to be published). Experience in any of the following areas is desirable: CNT flows, other particle-based simulation techniques, computational fluid dynamics, high-level programming languages (particularly C++); the OpenFOAM software. For appointment at the senior grade, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have suitable postdoctoral experience, relevant publications in high impact journals, and ideally be able to demonstrate their ability to win external funding.
