Fluid Mechanics Experimental Scientist—Postdoctoral Position
£38,000–£41,000 per annum + benefits
23 months contract

Job Description
The Fluid Mechanics Department has an opportunity for a fluid mechanics experimentalist to help us improve our understanding of fundamental fluid mechanics behaviour. Activities will involve experiments with downhole centrifugal pumps used to transport reservoir fluids to surface and assistance with the design and testing of new lift concepts. Study will encompass pump performance in single-phase and multiphase fluids over a range of viscosities for both existing and experimental pumping systems.

Responsibilities

• Undertake scientific research in fluid dynamics under general supervision, initially in support of this project but with the expectation of support for future projects.
• Make independent decisions on routine issues and recommend scientific solutions to specific problems.
• Coordinate and communicate work efforts as necessary.
• Cultivate and maintain a deep understanding in your area of scientific expertise, continually expand breadth of technical knowledge, and keep abreast of developments within your domain.
• Publish scientific papers, apply for patents as required, and participate in scientific conferences.

Qualifications
• PhD in experimental fluid mechanics or fluids engineering.
• Experience with experimental fluid mechanics in any of the following: multiphase flows, swirling flows, rotating systems, pumping systems, or turbomachinery.
• Aptitude for mechanical systems.
• Demonstrated potential for technical leadership role.
