Position SummaryA post-doctoral research position is available working with the team of research assistant professor Dr. Virginie Papadopoulou, as part of the Biomedical Ultrasound Laboratory of Professor Paul Dayton at UNC Chapel Hill (https: // daytonlab.sites.unc.edu/). This position will support research in biomedical ultrasound processing and computer vision. Tasks will include machine learning (ML), image and signal processing, and implementation in both laboratory and clinical environments. The postdoctoral research scholar will have the opportunity to advise graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, work with collaborators at Duke University (NC), University of California San Diego (UCSD, CA), and the research foundation Divers Alert Network (NC). Our Biomedical Ultrasound Laboratory is uniquely positioned in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering bridging UNC Chapel Hill and NC State University, and actively collaborates with clinicians, pharmacists, and industry in basic science, preclinical, and translational research. Post-docs will receive training in biomedical acoustics, as well as grant and protocol writing and career development. As part of this collaborative project aiming to automate the analysis of ultrasound recordings, the postdoctoral researcher will also have the opportunity to learn about the use of ultrasound for extreme environmental physiology applications and collaborate with physiology researchers and clinicians working with human subjects. UNC Chapel Hill is an exciting place to perform biomedical ultrasound research. The “triangle” formed between UNC, Duke, and NCSU has one of the greatest concentrations of ultrasound research labs in the country, which provides outstanding opportunities for broad collaborations. Our UNC-NC State Ultrasound Consortium is a team of 7 faculty working on the development of new ultrasound technologies, and provides an immense base of expertise, equipment, and training opportunities. The resources of the UNC Biomedical Research Imaging Center, the UNC School of Pharmacy, the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine provide powerful opportunities to develop translational projects.
Educational RequirementsApplicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Biomedical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics (or a related field) on a topic in medical data analysis/image processing, machine learning applied to computer vision (or a related area).
