Job Description
Department of Plant BreedingSLU Department of Plant Breeding performs research and education
addressing global challenges affecting our livelihoods and the environment. The Plant breeding division works on putting traits into usable forms by understanding their diversity, genetics and their interaction with surrounding environment with the aid of conventional and advanced breeding tools. We apply this knowledge for the genetic betterment of cultivars of economically important crops.
Duties:
The role of small RNAs in plant-microbe interactions is poorly understood. You will investigate mechanisms for plant-microbe interactions with reference to small RNA transport in filamentous pathogen interactions with different host plants. You will study the mechanisms of cross kingdom transport of small RNAs between plant and filamentous pathogens. You will thus have the unique opportunity to be involved in a project in close collaboration with RNA biologists and plant pathologists. You will have the possibility to develop new connections with many researchers and stakeholders through various seminars and events organized by SLU.

For this position, you must have received your PhD degree not more than three years prior to the deadline of this application and have a research focus on small RNAs, plant- microbiome interactions, plant breeding, bioinformatics or similar. You should have the ability to work independently as well as in a team. You should have contributed to research through publications in peer reviewed international journals. Prior experience with bioinformatic skills and small RNA studies is a merit.
