An outstanding postdoctoral opportunity is available in the laboratory of Dr. David Underhill at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to study innate immunity mechanisms. Research interests include macrophage and dendritic cell biology and intestinal inflammatory diseases (see Nature 472:47; Science 336:1314). Recent PhD graduates with a strong background in animal models of intestinal inflammation and/or innovative fluorescence imaging techniques will be preferred. Experience in basic cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry and mouse-handling is necessary. The successful candidate may study molecular mechanisms of interactions between microbes (fungi and bacteria) and phagocytes, or the role of the microbiome in intestinal diseases with a focus on fungal microflora. The laboratory is made up of a group of dynamic and dedicated investigators in the scientifically and culturally vibrant atmosphere of Los Angeles.
Educational Requirements:
An MD or PhD in a scientific field.

Qualification Requirements/Preferences:
Doctoral degree from an accredited university in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, etc. or a Medical degree. Understanding of research objectives in the area of research specialization. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment . Ability to learn and master new techniques. Self-starter, ability to work productively with minimal supervision. Cooperate fully with IBD laboratory personnel in lab maintenance, procedures, protocols, attend lab meetings.
