A postdoctoral position is available at the School of Science and Engineering of Reykjavik University in the area of agent-based computational economics within a research project funded by the Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannis) under grant no. 110653021.

Project Title: “Financial instability, credit rationing and business cycles in an agent-based model: the case of Iceland”

Project description: The project aims to understand the endogenous sources of instability in the financial system and to devise the relationship between credit supply, assets bubbles and macroeconomic activity. In order to achieve this goal, the project foresees the development of an agent-based model and a simulator of a credit network economy which will validated and calibrated considering the peculiar features of the Icelandic economy, such as its reliance on natural resources and foreign credit, and its present huge level of both public and private debt.

Responsibilities: the selected candidate will be in charge of the model implementation and simulation and will cooperate with the rest of the research group on model validation and analysis of simulated data.

Qualifications: applicants should have received a doctoral degree in engineering, computer science, physics, economics or a related discipline, or completion of all requirements for the degree should be expected before the starting date. Applicants should have proved experience in programming and data analysis. Experience in C programming is required and experience with the FLAME framework (www.flame.ac.uk) is considered an advantage.

Collaborations: Research activities will be in close cooperation with research groups at the School of Engineering of the University of Genoa (Italy) and the School of Economics of the University Jaume I (Castellon, Spain).

Appointment: the appointment is full time for 12 months. The participant will be selected based on academic records, recommendations, research interests and compatibility of background. A competitive salary according to European standards is foreseen. The starting date should be not later than January 2013. Reykjavik University premises will be the main working location; a period of permanence a the University of Genova, Italy, shall be considered.
